Police in Muhoroni sub-county are pursuing cattle rustlers who made away with five heads of animals on Tuesday night within the area.
The area OCPD Erastus Mwongera said the rustlers stormed into homestead of Mzee Joseph Osino at God Nyithindo Village in the night and took away the animals.
Mwongera however accused the victims of failure to report the matter to the Police making the rustlers to succeed in running away with the animals.
He said the incident took place at around 3am and the report was made at Muhoroni Police station at 9am Wednesday morning.
“Our officers could have recovered the animals could the report reached us on time,” said OCPD Mwongera.
However, Mwongera said a team of Police officers had been dispatched and contacted his Nandi counterpart to track down the stolen animals.
He is optimistic that the animals will be recovered and called upon locals in the area to be vigilant at all the times to discourage the rustlers.
“Locals should make their own arrangements to ensure their animals are safe, but still they should be reporting such cases on time to allow our officers to respond in time,” advised OCPD Mwongera.
It is reported that Mzee Osino is sickling and alone in the homestead and that could be the reason why the matter was reported late.
