Police officers and local chiefs in Nyamira County have been accused for increased illicit brew liquor in the County.
Residents of Bomwagabo on Friday claimed that police and local chiefs have been demanding bribes from illicit brew dealers.
The locals led by James Omete said illicit brew makers are paying monthly fees to police and chief to be allowed to make and sell illicit brew such as Chang’aa in the area.
“Young people have dropped school and ventured into alcohol consumption because making and selling of chang’aa is rampant in the area. Nyamira County commissioner should intervene to end the illegal busyness and safe our children so that they can complete school,” he said.
Omete regretted that corrupt officers are the ones allowed to crackdown on illicit liquor.
“The government has messed up giving orders to corrupt officers and chiefs to arrest illicit brew dealers. If the government wants to end illicit brews, the current officers and chiefs should be sent packing and have new officers come to rescue the young generation,” he added.
