Police officers in Nyamira County have raised alarm over increased domestic violence in the region.
This comes after a man was on Sunday arrested from Nyamatuta Nyamusi Nyamira North Sub County in Nyamira County for allegedly killing his wife.
Nyamira North police boss James Musyimi said men have been attacking their wives without following legal procedures to solve differences in marriage.
“It is worrying that the number of domestic cases being reported to police on daily basis is on the rise. Evil spirits have attacked men who pretend to be drunk only to end up attacking and injuring their wives,” he said.
Musyimi challenged local government officials to stop defending men who are assaulting their wives.
“Chiefs, Nyumba Kumi officials and elders should stop solving domestic cases locally. It is time assault cases to be reported to police so that suspects can be arraigned in court for the victims to get justice failure to which we will have several women losing their lives in villages without giving a thorough discipline to the suspects,” he added.
