Interior CS Joseph Nkaissery has assured the public that security agencies will ensure next year’s general election are free, fair and peaceful.

Nkaiserry said Thursday that the agencies have put in place the necessary security mechanisms to ensure the exercise is conducted in a free, fair and peaceful environment, the Standard has reported.

"We have put in place the right security mechanisms to ensure the elections are held in a free, fair and peaceful atmosphere."

Nkaissery made the remarks at Harambee House, Nairobi when he met with the visiting US Congressmen and women to discuss Kenya-US ties on security matters.

The meeting discussed various bilateral issues among them security cooperation between Kenya and the US, with emphasis on countering violent extremism and the war against terror.

The CS welcomed the help the US has given to the Kenyan government in its war against terror.

"With support and cooperation from your country, the United States of America, we have made great strides in war against terror and thereby enhancing security which in turn has improved investment environment in the country," Nkaisssery said.

The US team leader Congressman Buchanan hailed the Government on the measures it had put in place to improve security, noting that security and good governance were inter-related.

US envoy to Kenya Robert Godec, Interior PS Karanja Kibicho, Principal Administrative Secretary Joseph Irungu and other senior officials of the ministry were also present.
