According to acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i, the police service has been enabled, and will carry out a peaceful election.

Matiang’i was speaking on Tuesday at the Wilson Airport, where he inspected police helcopters that will be used during the election period.

“We have increased the capacity of the police and we are committed to achieving our goal of securing the country. So far, we have had the most peaceful pre-election period since 1963,” the CS said as quoted by the Daily Nation.

The police now have four helicopters that will be available during the election period.

The MI 17 helicopter was handed over to the police, and added to another long-range aircraft with the capacity to carry 36 fully equipped security officers.

Dr Matiang’i further noted that police operations have in the last four years improved, owing to the modernization programme.

“The job of the police is very clear and so far, they have all the equipment that they need and they have no excuse for not being able to move,” Mr Matiang’i said at Wilson.

Other top police officers including Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet, Director of Criminal Investigations Ndegwa Muhoro and Air Wing Commandant Rodgers Mbithi attended the event.
