Police in Migori are investigating an incident in which a placenta was found inside a pot filled with local beer.

Area police boss Riko Ngare said the placenta was discovered inside the pot after officers raided a local beer brewing and selling den at an informal settlement in the outskirts of Migori town.“We were briefed that there were people in the area selling beer as early as 7am,” Ngare told journalists on Saturday after the raid.“We dispatched officers to the area but the house was locked. They broke the door and found several pots filled with sieved beer used for brewing changaa. The officers poured the beer only to find a placenta inside one of the pots.”No one was arrested during the Saturday afternoon raid.Ngare, however, said police have launched a manhunt for the owner of the premise who he said was on the run after being tipped of the operation.“We haven’t yet established the origin of the placenta because we still do not know whether it belonged to a human being or any other animal,” he said.“When investigations are complete we will make it public so that people know the risk they are putting their lives into by consuming outlawed beer.”The discovery comes two years after a similar incident happened in Kiambu when police officers discovered a lady’s underwear inside a beer brewing container. The officers were conducting raids on beer selling dens in the county following President Uhuru Kenyatta’s directive against the manufacture and sale of second hand generation liquor. The operation targeted the counties of Nyeri, Kiambu, Muranga, Kirinyaga, Nakuru and Uasin Gishu.
