Karateng West Chief Nicholas Toro said the thieves abandoned the calf along the way after police started trailing them.

"Immediately we received information about the stolen livestock, we dispatched a team to follow the thieves, and we suspect they could not keep up , and decided to abandon the stolen animal," said Toro.

The calf was abandoned in Chulaimbo.

The calf was stolen from the compound of Solomon Opondo by people who claimed that they had lost their way around the village and that they were looking for direction.

Toro speaking to this writer said that the search for the culprits is still ongoing and police wont rest until the culprits are arrested.

"We wont give such people a chance in our society, they must be apprehended and face full force of the law as you know cattle rustling has been a major problem in our country," said Toro.

Toro urged the public to always report suspicious characters they come across as a means of minimising theft cases in the area.

The calf was returned to the owner.
