The vehicle of slain Mumias Sugar Company legal officer Donald Joseph Lubya was on Monday evening recovered Kabula market along the Mumias-Bungoma road where it was abandoned.
The Toyota Harrier, which the three hooded attackers stole from the family at Lukusi village, Matungu sub-county during the Sunday night attack was recovered, even though other electronics are still missing.
The police investigating the murder of Lubya have ruled out robbery as the reason for his death.
According to the officers, the assailants could have taken the vehicle to make it look like a normal robbery and divert investigators attention.
Speaking to the press, Western Regional police commander Moses Ombati said that initial investigations indicated more than just robbery.
“So far we've not established the motive for the killing because there was no commotion at the scene suggesting that the deceased was the target,” Ombati said.
"If these were robbers, they would have even crossed over to Uganda and went away with the vehicle because the location of the scene is close to the border," he added.
According to sources, the deceased had reported to the company security that his life was in danger, and looked utterly unsettled in the last couple of days.
Lubya was murdered in the presence of his wife on Sunday night at their home, before the assailants took off with his laptop and a few other documents.
