Police in Nakuru have recovered a vehicle stolen during the National Youth Service (NYS) pass-out parade that took place on Wednesday.
The event which was held at the NYS College in Gilgil was attended by President Uhuru Kenyatta among other dignitaries.
About 10 sets of false car ‘identities’ which included registration plates and engine firewalls were found hidden in a house at Pakawa, Pipeline area in the outskirts of Nakuru town.
However, the whereabouts of the owner of that house were not known as police did not find any suspect in the premises.
Nakuru DCIO James Leila said flying squad officers were carrying out their official duties at the function when they got an alert that a vehicle belonging to a guest in the function had been stolen.
“We traced the Probox vehicle fitted with a tracking device for hours and the signal led us to this compound,” he told the press.
Police also recovered an identity card belonging to one of the suspects whom they said was behind multiple theft syndicates in the country.
Leila noted that the suspect, Reuben Gachoka had cases pending in court and multiple warrants of arrests issued against him.
The vehicle’s insurance sticker and number plate had been changed and the engine interfered with as the suspects attempted to destroy the tracking device.
Police towed the vehicle to Gilgil police station as they launched a manhunt for the suspect.
