The National Police Service Commission nullified the results from the just concluded police recruitment exercise for Njoro, citing massive irregularities.

Demonstrators accused the Johnstone Kavuludi-led commission of overstepping its mandate, saying Kavuludi violated the law since he has no powers to hire or fire police officers.

The recruits denied bribing officials to secure a position, saying that majority were from poor backgrounds. They threatened to disrupt any attempt for a new recruitment exercise, insisting that they were hired in accordance with the law and that the nullified exercise was free and fair.

The recruits said they were depending on well-wishers to buy the required items in order to join the police college. They claimed that the commission nullified the sub-county’s exercise even before investigations were done to verify irregularity claims.

They said they were not ready to participate in another exercise and that the will use the letters they received after qualifying to join Kiganjo Police Training College.

Njoro is among the 36 recruitment centres whose results were cancelled on allegations of malpractice, affecting 44 recruits.
