Police in Nakuru on Tuesday rescued two girls who were locked in a house in Nakuru for two months after their mother failed to pay rent.
The incident that took place at Shabaab estate drew the attention of senior police officers who went to the estate to rescue the malnourished girls.
They cut the metalic windows of the house to get access before pulling the girls out one by one through the window.
According to the law enforcement officers, the girls had stayed in the house for close to two months.
Interestingly, however, no one in the plot knew the girls were locked in the one bed-room establishment.
"This morning when our officers were on patrol at Shabaab area, they received information that there were two children locked in a house for the purpose of having defaulted to pay their rent," a senior police officer in a video posted by Citizen TV on Facebook said.
One of the girls according to police is a 21-year-old student of Multimedia University who was undertaking her attachment in Nakuru town while the other was a form two student.
They said the agent locked them up demanding payment of the rent arrears.
The girls were taken to the Nakuru Central police station to record a statement as police launched a manhunt for the runaway agent.
"We will look for the owner of the house and take appropriate action," the senior police officer added.
"Locking somebody is an illegal way of solving problems.
One of the girls said their mother occasionally sneaked into the plot to give them food as she looked for money to clear the rent.
