The situation along the Thika road at Ruiru town has resumed to normal after the anti-riot police officers intervened and dispersed the protesting residents, easing the congestion that had overwhelmed Thika road.
The incident has left the police and county askaris with a hard task of clearing the town as well as the road which had been blocked.
However, the residents have vowed to demonstrate again if the county government of Kiambu does not show them where to relocate to after the demolitions of their market stalls claiming that there is no better market facility in Ruiru.
“The market they are forcing us to operate from is dirty and no one is concerned even with the pilling garbage in the market. We have given them 48 hours to show us where to sell our things fro or we storm the Thika road again,” the chairman of the group, Paul Karanja, said.
According to Karanja, they are being evicted so as the piece of land they operate from can be used to construct county facilities including a social hall and they will not accept that to happen.
Meanwhile, the Ruiru MP Esther Gathogo is set to address the protestors this afternoon in a move to calm them down.
Through her personal assistant, Antony Kinyanjui, the MP said that she was not aware of the last night demolitions and has not be involved in the whole issue and has vowed to advocate for the rights of her constituents.
