Police in Ruiru, Kiambu have launched manhunt for an Ethiopian immigrant leader who escaped during a raid on Wednesday.
Police say the Ethiopian immigrant escaped during a raid in Kahawa Wendani estate where at least 60 immigrants of Ethiopian origin were nabbed.
According to Ruiru police boss Hesbon Lusweti, the immigrants were arrested in a house as they prepared to travel to South Africa.
“We raided the house and arrested the immigrants with their Kenyan hosts,” he said.
However the person said to be the leader of the immigrants escaped arrest and search for him is ongoing.
The police boss said that they conducted the raid after receiving information from the members of the public. He said that the immigrants had no documents to show their origin and were on transit to South Africa.
Lusweti added that the immigrants will be arraigned in court once investigations are complete. He has asked residents to provide information that will lead to arrest of the suspect.
The police boss however assured residents of their safety saying they are working on the clock to curb crime in the area.
