Police have seized bhang worth Sh600,000 in Machakos that was being ferried in a car towards Nairobi.
The officers found six 50kg bags of bhang which was valued at Sh600,000 piled in the boot and back seat of the car.
Machakos county commissioner George Onyango said the car was intercepted at Kyumbi police road block on Friday after officers got suspicious when they ordered the driver to stop but instead, took a U-turn and tried to speed away.
"The officers were forced to deflate one of the tires of the car after the driver attempted to drive away when he was ordered to stop," said Onyango.
The two occupants in the car, however, abandoned it and ran into the darkness before the officers could catch up with them.
The car was towed to Machakos police station together with its contents as the police continue to pursue the owners where Onyango appealed to the members of the public to volunteer information that will assist the police in the fight against drug peddling.
“Nobody thought that such a small car can be used to ferry such amounts of bhang meaning that drug peddlers have now changed tack. We will now have all vehicles including Tuk Tuks inspected in all our roadblock, Onyango concluded.
