Government security officers have recovered deadly weapons that had been buried outside a commercial residential house in the Bula Sagare area lying within the outskirts of Garissa town near the volatile Somali border.
Northeastern Regional Coordinator Mohamoud Saleh confirmed the incident on Monday, disclosing that the weapons which comprised of an AK 47 riffle, 210 rounds of ammunition, improvised explosive devices, hand grenades, and a number of fully loaded suicide bomber jackets were recovered on Sunday night.
Saleh pointed out that a member of the public had stumbled on the weapons that were buried in a plastic container but were washed away following heavy rains that pounded on the area.
He further said the informant later reported the disclosure at the Garissa police station where police officers moved swiftly into action and on arrival seized the deadly weapons.
The administrator also confirmed that no arrest have so far been made but added that the police were following crucial leads that would lead to arrests.
