Police have shot dead a suspected mugger in Nairobi CBD, during a failed robbery attempt. 

The Sunday 4 am morning incident happened along the Kimathi Street, after the suspect, who was in a group of three tried to rob members of the public.

Police, who were on their morning patrol, moved in swiftly, shooting and killing the young man on the spot. 

Nairobi OCPD Robinson Thuku confirmed the incident, saying the muggers tried to shoot at the police as they escaped on motorcycle. 

Police are searching for the other suspect, who is said to have escaped with bullet wounds. 

The OCPD further said that they have increased patrol within the town, with recent insecurity cases sending cold shivers down the spine of many Nairobi residents.

A homemade gun was recovered from the scene.Daylight robbery and mugging have headlined recent happenings within the CBD, with footage and images showing brutal robbery on the streets.

The government in conjunction with the Nairobi County government have moved with speed to ensure the streets are once again safe, saying they have increased the presence of police in the streets.
