Residents of Huruma Estate in Nakuru want the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to institute a legal action against an armed police officer who shot and injured a resident in a community initiated rescue operation of abused children.
The irked residents accused the police of using excessive force to gain access to a house where two disabled minors had allegedly been confined for two years by their mother.
The spectacle began when the residents unanimously agreed to break into the house hosting the children when police came in and demanded to take over the operation.
It is then that the victim blocked the police officer from gaining access to the house and this led to a short altercation that culminated in to the ugly incident.
In his defense the police officer who is the Njoro OCS accused the victim of obstructing his way in what he called a line of duty much to the chagrin of the residents.
"The police arrested the children's mother but released her later under unclear circumstances. The police have waited until we have taken action so that they intervene yet we have reported the case to them many times," one resident who sought anonymity said.
Residents say they had decided to rescue the children and hand them over to relevant child support agencies and the government for timely assistance.
The victim has been admitted at Njoro District Hospital for specialised treatment.
