Police spokesperson person Charles Owino has said that he does not anticipate NASA leader Raila Odinga to commit an offence ahead of his planned swearing in on Tuesday.
The Star reports that Owino believes Raila is experienced and will act within the law.
During a telephone interview with the paper, Owino did not comment on weather police will arrest Raila in case he goes ahead and swear himself in.
"I don't have jurisdiction to comment on that. The Attorney General was clear....The AG is the chief adviser to the government and we work for the government. The AG has advised us on what the law provides for," Owino is quoted by the Star.
"Police enforce laws and regulations of the land. We respect Kenyans and what they do but if you commit an offence, we have to act within the law. If the law dictates that you have to be arrested then our hands are tied - we have to act within the law."
The paper further reports that two plans are being tossed - stopping Raila from holding a meeting or allowing it but disrupting it immediately it turns out to be an inauguration.
On Thursday, Attorney General Githu Muigai said that anybody planning to swear himself will be committing treason hence punishable by death.
