[Photo: The Star]Police Spokesman Charles Owino has called on people who witnessed the shooting of the 7-year-old Geoffrey Mutinda on Tuesday in Embakasi 'to join our investigations team'.The boy is said to have been playing on a balcony when a stray bullet shattered his head, dying instantly. Police were engaging Nasa protestors who were trying to make way into Jacaranda grounds when the incident happened."I don’t want to say policemen just use live bullets, there is a process where that ought to be done. We (police) are not partisan and we take care of every Kenyan and that is why I am calling upon those who may have witnessed the incidence to come out and help us with investigations," Owino told NTV's Sidebar on Wednesday.Owino, however, exonerated the police from wrongdoing saying they have done their level best."You can't blame us for your mistakes. Nobody ever talks about the behaviour of people carrying out the demos, the person whose image suffers is the police. This is a bit unfair yet we are expected to protect life and property," he added.Nairobi Police Chief Japhet Koome on Wednesday denied police had shot Mutinda saying the child could have been killed by a criminal gang.Koome said that there were no operations in that area where the boy died adding the only operation to deal with rioters was around Jacaranda Grounds and its environs in Donholm, 5km away.
