Three people including the Uganda police spokesperson, assistant Inspector General of Police Andrew Felix Kaweesi have been shot dead.
Kaweesi and two other police officers were shot dead by unknown assailants about 100 metres from his home in Kulambiro, Nakawa Division in Kampala.
Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Emilian Kayima confirmed the Friday morning shooting.
“This morning, one of our senior colleagues AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi was gruesomely killed as he was going for duty. He was killed at about 9:30 am along with his body guard, Kenneth Erwau and driver Godfrey Wambewo,'' Kayima told press at the scene of the crime.
''It is a very unfortunate incident. All experts are here to manage the crime scene. We will give more updates as they come in,” he added.
It is not yet clear how Kaweesi and his aides were killed.
The Country's Inspector General of Police Kale Kayihura and other senior security officers rushed to the scene as investigations commenced.
Their bodies were taken to Mulago National Referral Hospital for post-mortem.
Kaweesi who also held the position of director human resource was appointed by Kayihura, as the Special police spokesperson, August 2016.
