Police Spokesperson Charles Owino has called for intensified security across the country in a bid to curb terror threats by the Al-Shabaab and other criminal gangs.
In a statement to newsrooms on Monday, Owino asked county commissioners and other security officials to intensify security in their respective areas.
He called for vigilance and cooperation between the law enforcers and members of the public.
“We are calling on law enforcers in counties and across the country to be on alert and deal with any suspicious cases,” he said in the statement.
Owino said that police operations and patrols will be stepped up across the country with aim of curbing terror agents and sympathisers.
He noted that several arrests have been made in security swoops across the country.
“As law enforcers we have stepped up the fight against terror agents and criminals through intensive security swoops and patrols and would like to urge the members of the public to work with us,” he said.
Owino on the same note cautioned youths against being lured to join terror and criminals gangs.
He said that investigations have been launched to several cases where people suspected to be terror agents are allegedly recruiting youths into terror groups.
There have been concerns over high cases where youths are allegedly being recruited into terror groups.
Last week, Uasin Gishu county commissioner Mohammed Abdi raised an alarm claiming that some youths are being recruited by Al-Shabaab.
The commissioner said that at least four youths who went missing four months ago could have crossed into Somalia to join the terror groups.
Hassan appealed to parents and guardians to report their sons and daughters who have gone missing to enable proper investigations and appropriate action.
