The decision to put up a police station came after a meeting between the Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Abdi Hassan and Richard Mibei who is the Vice Chancellor of Moi University.

Speaking to the press yesterday after the meeting, Abdi Hassan said that tight security measures have already been put in place at the university and also all the institutions in the county and public places.

"I assure the people of this county that we have put up enough measures to ensure that they are safe at all times,” said Abdi Hassan.

Richard Mibei told the press that the management of the university had received a number of insecurity complaints where some female students are said to have been raped and one murdered during the month of March.

"It is due to the complaints that we have decided to set up a police station at the campus. We as the management of Moi University fully support the move to go ahead and bring the police officers closer to us. This is going to ensure that there is enough safety and security to both the students and also the staffs,” said Mibei.

Hassan said that Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital was among the key institutions where tight security has been enhanced.

"Police officers together with the intelligence services have been deployed to all the key institutions in this county,” said Hassan.

He said that they were following the recent government directives which ordered all the county commissioners to improve the security of all the institutions in their county.
