Police in Kiambu have stepped up the search for a man who allegedly raped and murdered his step-daughter in Kiambu and stuffed her body in a suitcase.
County chief investigating officers held several meetings on Thursday aimed at ensuring that the suspect is apprehended and arraigned in court.
The suspect, Evanson Njau, is said to have murdered the 6-year-old girl at Ndumberi village on Sunday.
Kiambu police boss James Mugera said the search for the suspect is underway and would be arraigned in court once found.
He said that they are following leads that will lead to the arrest of the suspect.
“We have stepped out efforts to apprehend the suspect in connection to the murder of the girl,” he said on phone.
The police boss has asked anyone with information on the whereabouts of the suspect to alert police.
Various leaders and residents have condemned the incident and called for a thorough probe and action.
“How can a human being murder an innocent child who has not wronged anyone,” wondered Agnes Wanjiku, a resident.
Wanjiku urged the police to quickly probe the matter and ensure the suspect is charged in court.
