The Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet has dismissed a publication by a local daily, that the police have been luring suspects into their deaths.
Through National Police spokesman George Kinoti, Boinnet said the publication by the Standard, on December 10, was reckless and misleading.
He said the information was undoubtedly received from someone whose credibility was doubtful and and asked Kenyans not to 'consume' the information.
"This sensational and unbalanced articles appear to be aimed at attempting to intimidate hard working police officers, as well as undermine their morale and dishearten them. Why an otherwise respected national newspaper would elect to engage in this wanton misinformation is difficult to guess,'' Kinoti said, Saturday.
He added that it was unfair for anyone to link the police to murders perpetrated by unknown persons, without iota of evidence.
"In view of the foregoing, the National Police Service will protest to the Media Council of Kenya for redres as weel as take other legal action,'' warned the police.
