Anti-riot police in Mombasa were on Friday forced to use teargas canisters to disperse protesting alleged ODM supporter in Mombasa streets.
The protesters were demanding that Governor Ali Hassan Joho should be sworn-in as the deputy People's President to deputise NASA leader Raila Odinga.
They had pledged to swear-in the ODM deputy leader after camping at his Offices before being dispersed. They protested the failure by three NASA co-principals to attend the controversial swearing-in of opposition leader Raila Odinga.Odinga, took oath of office and declared himself People’s President in a ceremony held at the historic Uhuru Park grounds on January 30.
The inauguration saw Odinga read the oath presided over by High Court Advocate (Ruaraka MP) Tom Kajwang, and in the presence of Senior counsel (Siaya senator) James Orengo, and lawyer Miguna Miguna, a former Nairobi gubernatorial candidate.
His deputy Kalonzo Musyoka, NASA co-principals Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula were missing. The duo later explained that they skipped the ceremony after being locked in one room, after their security was withdrawn.
The youth wearing ODM party-branded t-shirts protested along Mombasa streets carrying anti-Kalonzo banners, saying Joho had sacrificed a lot for NASA and takeover from Kalonzo.
