Likoni Deputy County Commissioner Albert Kimathi has said all politicians suspected of aiding the Mombasa Republican Council (MRC) will be probed ahead of the next general election.
Kimathi said he has received reports about a section of politicians helping the group re-organise itself to cause chaos with the aim of influencing the August 8 election results.
The Deputy Commissioner, however, said they will not release the names of leaders suspected to be working with the group.
“We cannot release their names as yet although we have all the reports concerning their activities in connection with the MRC,” said Kimathi, as quoted by The Star.
He said police officers are ready to arrest and prosecute any politician who will be found assisting the group in any way.
According to The Star, the group is reported to have embarked on recruiting youths between 13 to 17 years in different areas including Likoni, Kisauni and Kwale.
This comes after the council's leaders requested to meet Coast Regional Coordinator Nelson Marwa and commissioners from the six counties to discuss the next general election.
