[Photo|Maxwell]Security agents and other administration stakeholders in Likoni area within Mombasa County have been urged to directly involve youth groups in their strategies to curb the rising insecurity in the area.Security agents have been further challenged to involve the community in security forums so that it becomes easy for the community to volunteer information which will lead to the arrest of criminals in the affected areas of Likoni Sub- County.Speaking in Majengo in Mombasa on Tuesday, Mvita constituency Youth leader Mohammed Hussein said that if police engage youth in fighting the rising criminal gangs in Likoni the problem may be solved and the area returns to normalcy.According to Hussein, since most of the criminal gangs involve youth then youth should be encouraged to lead in the fight and work with the police so that they can curb the emergence of criminal gangs in the area.“How can youth give locals sleepless nights, this should be collective responsibility, directly involve them in the fight against the menace,” he said.Hussein said that it was not only Likoni that was grappling with the insecurity but also Kisauni Sub-County as most juvenile gangs were armed, injuring and killing innocent locals in the area.“We have employed the same strategy in Majengo, Floringi and Old town areas within Mvita Constituency and it has worked, let us do the same in Likoni and Kisauni” he urged the security agents. The youth leader also appealed to the police to involve women in fighting the rising insecurity in Likoni and Kisauni. He said that women understand more about their children and youth would listen to the cry of women over the insecurity matters thus deterring them from engaging in criminal activities.Hussein, however, applauded the police for conducting community forums on security issues thus making over 30 youth in juvenile criminal gangs surrender to the police and even surrender their weapons being pangas and machetes. He appealed to the police to curb the rising insecurity in Likoni and Kisauni sub counties within Mombasa where gangs among the Wakali Kwanza, Wakali wao, Boko Haram, Wajukuu wa bibi and Watalia among many other have been terrorising locals.
