A female matatu tout in Huruma has threatened to sue two police officers who allegedly forced her to undress to confirm if she was a woman because she had beards.
Teresiah Mumbi, 31, said he was forced to undress on May after being arrested on claims of committing a traffic offense.
Mumbi, speaking to KTN television on Friday said the two unidentified female traffic police officers forced her to remove her trouser and underwear as they wanted to confirm if she was a man or woman.
"Those two female officers came and demanded that I undress and I put my legs apart," she said.
"After they were satisfied, they took me back to the cell."
She said she suspended shaving the beard because each time she shaved it became itchy.
I have even stopped working, I don't want another incident like that. Is this justice?"
She said it was wrong for the cops to force her undress since the two, by law, were expected to protect her.
Mumbi said she will contact her lawyer and present her case in court through her lawyer's guidance.
The matatu she was operating plies the Nairobi Central Business District-Huruma route.
Members of the public have condemned the incident through social media.
Huruma OCPD Alice Kimeli is yet to confirm the incident.
