According to Njoro police boss Patrick Lai, the suspects, Herman Odhiambo and George Salano, who run a mobile phones repair and accessories shop in Bondeni area of Njoro Township were arrested following a tip off from members of the public.

He said the suspects were arrested with ten second-hand mobile phones and several accessories that they could not account for and which police believe are stolen property being offered for sale cheaply.

“Members of the public informed us that there is an electronic shop that buys stolen phones and sales them at a cheap prices. We believe that most of the phones are stolen from people by crooks within Njoro area and deposited at the shop. We have launched investigations to unearth the syndicate and prosecute the suspects,’’ said Lai.

According to the police boss, one of the members of the public who informed police about the syndicate had lost his mobile phone worth Sh 8, 000 a week ago after he was attacked by robbers at night. The robbers allegedly stole the phone among other property only for him to buy the same phone at the electronic shop at Sh 2, 000.

Lai added that the suspects will also face charges of operating a business without a license apart from aiding robbery and handling stolen property.
