Nyanza regional police coordinator, Charles Narangwi, has urged Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma to set aside funds for the setting up of the cameras in crime-prone areas to help curb the high rate of insecurity in the town.

Speaking in his Central police office on Friday, Narangwi said the CCTV cameras would go a long way towards boosting the Kisumu´s security as criminal activities have sharply risen in the recent past.

“The rising cases of daylight robberies, murder and other offenses are reaching alarming levels and we are in dire need of the surveillance equipment in order to efficiently tackle crime,” Narangwi said.

The police coordinator said that the duty to secure Kisumu residents should not be left to the national government alone and instead be boosted by the county government as well.

“I would also request the governor to also purchase police patrol chase cars just like in Mombasa and Machakos counties in an effort to enhance security in our city,” Narangwi added.

The police boss lauded the efforts that went towards the installation of floodlights in Migosi and Manyatta, saying that that the move has greatly reduced crime rates in the area.
