A police crackdown has been launched on the motorcyclists who do not observe the traffic rules in the lakeside town.

Kisumu traffic enforcement officer Joshua Omukata issued a stern warning to the boda boda operators who flout the traffic rules.

“This is an issue of great concern to the police as we are left to wonder if at all our boda boda operators are really qualified to ride on our roads,” Omukata said.

“We also suspect that most of them do not have the required licence to operate on the roads.”

The traffic boss noted that not adhering to traffic rules is extremely dangerous.

“The operators not only put their lives in danger but also that of their passengers. There is also need for them to have their head gears so avoid exposing themselves to danger and also from medical complications.”

Omukata called on parents who ferry their children to school to be mindful of the operator who handles them.

“It is unsafe for the young ones to be ferried to school by operators who do not follow even the basic traffic rules and it is about time we protected our children,” he said.

We are tasked with the responsibility of protecting the lives of Kenyans, and we shall protect both the life of the operator and that of his passenger, he noted.
