Nakuru traffic commandant Charlton Mureithi has warned rogue motorists who flout traffic rules, saying they will not be tolerated.
Speaking to the media yesterday at his office, the commandant warned that stiff action will be taken against motorists who break traffic rules and regulations.
In order to curb and deal with flouters of traffic rules along the Nakuru-Nairobi highway, the commandant said that more traffic road blocks will be erected along the busy road.
“We want to warn motorists against deviating from the laid down traffic rules,” he said.
The official observed that road accidents are common along the highway especially during the festive season.
He said that to curb such accidents, motorists will have to fully adhere to traffic rules and regulations.
The official said that they are working with the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to ensure traffic laws are adhered to.
Mureithi said that speed cameras have been erected at various points along the busy highway to monitor errant motorists.
Mureithi at the same time called on Public Service Vehicles (PSVs) to put in place security measures and ensure safety of passengers.
“We also want to ask PSV owners to ensure they have in place proper security measures for their passengers,” he said.
The Nakuru-Nairobi highway has been cited as one of the deadliest roads in the world that record many fatal accidents.
Areas like Kinungi in Naivasha, Sachagwan, Molo, and Burnt Forest are common black spots for road carnages.
