Amnesty International has warned police officers against using excessive force during post-election protests resulting from the August 8 polls.
This is after four people died on Wednesday during protests over presidential results in Mathare, Nairobi.
Two children suffocated and died in Area 10 as tear gas was fired at protesters.
Muthoni Wanyeki, AI regional director said force should only be used as a last resort.
"Even then, it should only be the bare minimum to prevent loss of life," she said in a statement on Wednesday.
"Any excessive or disproportionate use of force would violate Kenyan and international law."
Wanyeki further told leaders to ask their supporters to refrain from violence.
