Students living in suburbs of Kisii town have been urged to respect the rule of law by using existing legal means to handles issues of crime.

This comes a day after a mob mainly comprising angry students nabbed a suspected thief in Nyamage village on Saturday and killed him on the spot.

Speaking to the press on Sunday, Kisii Central OCS Joseph Ndolo urged students to respect the rule of law by working closely with the authorities to curb incidents of theft and robbery.

Ndolo promised to crack the whip on students who takes the law into their hands by engaging in mob justice.

“I am shocked that people who understand the law can as well violate it. Killing is forbidden under the Kenyan law and I therefore condemn mob justice. We have the right channels that ought to be followed in such occasions,” he said.

He urged house owners in Kisii town to employ security guards who will enhance security in the region to combat rising cases of theft targeting students.

“We do not condone mob justice. Time has come for house owners to employ house guards to help in combating cases of robbery in students’ occupied areas,” he added.

The body of the suspected robber was taken to Kisii County Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary.
