A police officer and three civilians were at the weekend arrested after a failed carjacking incident along Thika Super Highway.
Eye witnesses said a public service vehicle (PSV) was ferrying passengers from Thika to Nairobi when it was blocked by a saloon car at Ndarugo near Juja Town on Saturday night.
Upon stopping, the passengers told The Standard, four men ordered the driver and his tout to step out.
The two were dragged into the boot of a saloon car at gunpoint.
The matatu, which had been left unattended, started to move in reverse, prompting the passengers to jump out.
A team of AP officers on patrol noticed the commotion and stopped to find out what was going on.
The passengers informed the officers that the driver and his tout had been bundled into a saloon car that was parked few metres away.
On interrogation, The Standard reports, the four men claimed they were officers from the Flying Squad.
But on pressing further, it emerged only one was a security officer.
"We have discovered the officer is based in Murang'a South. A Ceska pistol was recovered from him," a detective investigating the incident told the local daily.
The four are expected to be arraigned in court on Tuesday.
