An Administration Police officer escaped a lynch mob in Wamba town, Samburu East sub-county on Saturday after he reportedly killed an elderly man.
According to residents, the officer slit the man's throat at Treetop village on Friday.
County administration police boss Stephen Mwinzi said the officer killed the man during a brawl.
"They hail from the same village. The policeman accused the deceased of stealing his utensils. It is during the argument that the officer went to his house and got a matchete which he used to kill the old man," said Mwinzi.
He added that police have launched investigations into the killing.
An eye witness, John Lenamparas said the mob spotted the policeman in Wamba town on Saturday and began chasing him but luckily his fellow officers came to his rescue.
