Police in Kisumu are detaining one of their own after he allegedly shot and killed a university student following a brawl in a bar in Kisumu on Thursday night.
Chief Inspector Sebastian Ambani who is attached to the Kuria West Police Division in Migori County, was off-duty when he allegedly fatally shot and killed KCA University Kisumu Campus student Brian Makabwa.
According to Kisumu County Commander Police John Kamau, preliminary investigations indicate that the officer shot the student on the head and stomach during the misunderstanding.
Kamau said that investigations are on-going, to establish what actually transpired.
KCA University Kisumu Campus student leader Alfred Kachero said police should ensure that justice is served bearing in mind that the suspect is one of their own.
“We are in pain. One of our own has been shot in unclear circumstances. The student had barely settled in school. He was supposed to begin his classes next week,” said Kachero.
