A son to a police officer stationed at Juja has shot himself dead.
The boy was reportedly playing with his father's gun on Saturday when it accidentally went off and killed him on the spot at their Embakasi home.
According to Kenya Airports Police Unit officer Richard Omanga, Constable Sammy Kiprop left the gun unattended at a bedside drawer and it is said the minor started playing with it.
After hearing gunshots from their colleague's house, police officers rushed to the house and found the boy lying in a pool of blood.
"It is believed that the son took the firearm and shot himself while playing with it," Omanga said.
The deputy OCPD added that the Jericho pistol had 14 rounds of ammunition.
Police recovered a spent cartridge of a 9mm bullet at the scene.
"The child was taken to Bliss hospital within Embakasi where he was pronounced dead."
"The scene was processed by scenes of crime personnel and body moved to City mortuary awaiting postmortem," the police boss added.
