The Kenya Association of Women in Police (KAWP) say intimidation and harassment are the biggest causes why women quit police service.
The association also decried lack of exposure and information to women and lack of platforms to air their grievances.
Speaking during the recruitment of women in the association, Judy Chebet, the KAWP liaison officer said that women in the police service face a lot of challenges, some of which could be solved if addressed early enough.
Chebet added, "Most women in the police are unable to balance work and family something that leads them quitting the jobs to take care of the family."
She added that KAWP aims at encouraging and appreciating women in the service; “KAWP will not only give women in police a platform to voice their challenges but also offer mentorship.”
The association which was started by the Administration Police, Kenya Police, and the Directorate of Criminal Investigation has 2,000 members from all police departments.
“We are now targeting to register those in the department of Prisons and the Kenya wildlife Service (KWS) as they are not an exception,” she said.
Chebet commended the association saying that it has taken the mantle to empower women in the service.
“It has ensured exposure and ability to network and corporate social responsibility,” she added.
