Poliomyelitis is a crippling and potentially deadly infectious disease which is caused by the Poliovirus.
The virus spreads can invade an infected person's brain and spinal cord, causing paralysis say researchers and medics.
As the polio campaign in the country kicks off parents and guardians have been advised not to keep their children away for vaccination.
Thomas Bagaka from Nyamache in Bobasi constituency who gave his history on how polio attacked him when he was four-years-old due to his parent’s negligence of the disease.
“My parents always believed that it was witchcraft and through their ignorance and negligence they did not take me to the hospital since they believed that I was bewitched," said Bagaka.
"So I was affected with Polio which disabled but I thank God for helping me,” Said Bagaka.
Therefore, he urged parents and guardians to make sure that the children who are under five years are vaccinated.
“I am a Polio survivor hence I advise all parents and guardians to take caution once the ministry launches the campaign, ” said Bagaka.
