The Ministry of Healthy on Saturday launched the polio vaccination in Gilgil town, Nakuru.

This comes few days after the Catholic Church asked parents to boycott the exercise claiming it wasn’t safe. Nearly six million children who are under five years in 32 counties are expected to be vaccinated against polio in the five day exercise.

The immunisation campaign started on Saturday August 1 and is expected to end on August 5. However, there will be second phase scheduled to begin on August 29 to September 2.

The ministry has put up posters to educate the public about the significance of the vaccine and accused the Catholic Church of spreading falsities.

Health Principal Secretary Khadijah Kassachoon assured has Kenyans that the vaccine to be administered during the polio vaccination is safe and effective. She requested the church to support the state in ensuring the success of the campaign.

The Pharmacy and Poisons Board has also insisted that the polio vaccine is of good quality and should be administered to the children.

Despite the assurance, Catholic Church maintains that the vaccines are not safe alleges that it is laced with a family planning component.
