Public health officers in Kibera have said that the ongoing intensive Immunisation exercise will ensure all children under five years receive polio vaccine.
According to the area public health officer, Regina Mule, the exercise which started on April 9 will cover all the children in the area.
In an interview on Tuesday, Mule reiterated the need to sensitise mothers on how to acquire polio vaccination services for their children.
“Those who are not vaccinated may suffer from diseases such as paralysis and meningitis, which can be fatal, and all parents should be up-to-date with all childhood immunisation programs,” she observed.
She said the vaccine has gone through various tests to ascertain its suitability and has been fully approved by the World Health Organisation (WHO) after a protracted battle between the government and the Catholic Church.
Meanwhile, the exercise will is set to end by 14th April.
