Speaking to Citizen TV through video chatting on Thursday night, Mutua claimed that all political aspirants were aiming at gaining tribal grounds by winning various seats just for their tribal backings.

Mutua said that leaders were calling on people to vote for them depending on where they came from and not on the development record.

"We have leaders who are campaigning for their leaders on tribal gains. Today, a leader is not evaluated on his development record but where he or she comes from. This should not be the case as the country is fighting against tribal backings in the country," reiterated Mutua.

Mutua also weighed in on the announcement of Former Cabinet Secretary Charity Ngilu to join the race for Kitui gubernatorial seat.

According to Mutua, Ngilu was going to cause a lot of competition for incumbent Governor Julius Malombe.

However, Mutua called on the people to vote according to the achievement of a leader and not their tribal background.
