Politicians and all aspirants eyeing various seats in the August general elections will wait until May 28 to start their campaigns.
This is according to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
IEBC chairperson, Wafula Chebukati, said all measures had been put in place to ensure the exercise runs above board.
“We are fully committed to ensure we deliver a free, fair and transparent election,” Chebukati said.
Among the key initiatives, Chebukati noted, there will be deployment of 47 electoral managers. They would work closely with the county security officers unlike in 2013 general election where the commission had only 16 coordinators.
The electoral boss added that security officers would be trained together with his team, in an exercise slated to start next week.
He was speaking in Nairobi, Tuesday, during the launch of the Elections Security Arrangement project that will see 180,000 security and electoral officers trained ahead of the August 8 elections.
