2017 has been a busy year for Kenya.
There were several key stories that kept Kenyans busy. From the sudden demise of IEBC's ICT boss Chris Msando to the Joho-Uhuru wrangles; the nation had more than enough breaking news and controversial headlines.
Former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama was among the people that made headlines this year. On February 14 during the funeral of the late Kwale Senator and Rails Odinga’s ally Boy Juma Boy, Muthama dominated news outlets after he claimed that the late senator gave him a special wish on the day he died.
He alleged that Boy repeated eight times that Muthama should make sure Odinga is named opposition flagbearer. This angered Kalonzo Musyoka who was eying the same position.
Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria was also widely covered after alleging that Coast Regional Coordinator Nelson Marwa was a sniffer dog after Governor Hassan Joho’s drugs. Kuria was responding to Suna East MP Junet Mohamed who said Marwa was acting like a sniffer dog. The controversial legislature said this on live television.
September first was a historical day after the Supreme Court annulled President Uhuru’s win. This was a worldwide news that was made more attractive by the apology by Chief Justice David Maraga for failing to deliver a full verdict.
The news that NASA leader Rails Odinga was ill shook the nation. The March 9 event that was linked to food poisoning after a medical examination at Karen Hospital. Raila was set to meet former Bomet governor Isaac Ruto.
Governor 001 was ever battling the Head of State but Kenyans were shocked when their differences made the former to be blocked from attending Mtongwe ferry launch. This with the decision by Gideon Moi to back President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election surprised many.
The last week of July was a sad one. IEBC ICT manager Chris Msando was found dead. He went missing then found dead in Kikuyu. This was a shocker to Kenya.
2018 should have better political stories after 2017, a year of politicking.
