All Mombasa political leaders who pledged to sponsor students joining National schools and other County schools from Mombasa should keep their promises and ensure the students are in school.
Mombasa County KNUT Secretary Dan Aloo said that some politicians use such important educational matters just to gain political mileage and later leave the students in total confusion without anyone to turn to.
Aloo said that all politicians who promised to pay full scholarship for students joining form one whether in National schools or other schools within the county or at the Coast should pay the exact amount and on time so that students are not sent home because of lack of school fees.
The KNUT Secretary said that several cases of students forced to terminate their studies for lack of fees were reported in the past years as the politicians only paid first term fees and later abandoned the poor students causing them double pains.
He said that KNUT officials will closely monitor the progress of all students promised fully scholarships in National schools as well as other schools in the region so that they carry on with their studies without being sent home for lack of fees.
“This time round, things will be unusual if such leader fails to fulfill his promise then we will force him to do so, they should not play around with education or lives of these poor students” said Aloo.
He said that politics of hide and seek games should not be introduced in education matters and such politicians should ensure they assist poor children accomplish their education goals.
“We have already seen some Members of parliament among them Mvita MP Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir and his Kisauni counterpart Ali Mbogo inventing into education and assisting poor students, let others emulate them” he said.
Meanwhile, Aloo has appealed to the Mombasa county government to ensure that bursaries are timely allocated to poor students so that they also access education.
