In an exclusive interview with The Star, Muthama alleged that these political parties have done the nation more harm than good.

He noted that most of these parties are formed on tribal lines and they lack a national outlook.

“Tribalism has flourished greatly and this is attributable to this agenda which was set some time back and which continues to be sustained to the detriment of national unity,’’ said the outspoken senator.

His sentiments come at a time when more political parties are being formed in different parties. A few days ago, Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua launched his political outfit dubbed Maendeleo Chap Chap, which he claims does not have “bloody links with the outside communities”.

The senator also emphasized the need to empower the people of Kenya. “Everyone, especially the poor, need to be empowered so that they can participate in development. There is enough for all of us but leadership must step up; leaders must undertake participatory development processes and public must shun those who don’t as well as divisive one,” said Muthama.

The Senator has been one of the opposition leaders spearheading the removal of Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC from office in preparation for 2017 general elections.
