Ferdinard Waititu seems to be gaining from the controversy surrounding William Kabogo, after the Kiambu County Chief made remarks concerning Ruto's presidential bid in 2022.
Kabogo came under attack from a section of Jubilee and United Republican Party (URP) leaders, after stating that Ruto was not guaranteed of Mt Kenya votes in 2022 general elections just by virtue of being a member of Jubilee Coalition.
Speaking on Friday in Muthure, Gitaru ward in Kabete constituency during the burial of Rose Njoki Njenga, the woman who was brutally murdered, burned and buried by her son, Waititu criticised Kabogo terming his remarks as 'baseless personal opinion'.
“Ruto supported the Jubilee government ahead of 2013 general elections. I was in the six-man delegation that planned Jubilee strategies and we need to support Ruto in return. This is the wrong time for him to spread disunity among the party supporters. His remarks are simply baseless and of personal interest,” Waititu said.
According to Kabete legislator, the remarks are putting Uhuru Kenyatta’s presidential bid in jeopardy as unity from the two regions is paramount in determining his re-election.
Kabogo’s remarks have sparked out a major outcry from a wide section of Central Kenya MPs, which is deemed to cause a major shake-up in Jubilee party ahead of next year’s general elections.
Kiambu governor had earlier on responded to Ruto, expressing his remarks as genuine and honest.
“Ruto and I are friends and I am entitled to tell him the truth. The conversation for 2022 presidential elections should start now,” the defiant governor said.
Waititu’s remarks were greeted with awe from the residents who expressed support for him, which is bound to raise political temperatures as the two heads seem to openly disagree on all political matters.
Waititu also expressed his unstoppable interest to vie for Kiambu gubernatorial seat, a bid that has continually widened the rift between the two.
