Rivalry among Kisumu politicians is expected to hit a notch higher following the conclusion of the Mass Voter Registration exercise.
Elected political leaders and aspirants for different positions are now expected to start their campaigns after the process ended on Sunday.
Most leaders during the just concluded voter registration campaign periods set aside their deference and worked together to mobilize residents to vote within their region.
This did not, however, last for long in some regions as opponents accused one another of sabotaging the process.
The county senator Prof Anyang’ Nyong’o and Nyando MP Fred Outa including Deputy Governor Ruth Odinga accused Governor Jack Ranguma of sabotaging the process in the county.
Nyongo is planning to unseat Ranguma for the governor’s position including Ruth who will also be running for the same seat.
Businessman Dr Hezron McObewa is also running for the governor’s position including an architect Chris Ondiek and Maendeleo ya Wanawake Charlady Atieno Otieno (Jubilee).
Nyong’o and McObewa have been in the forefront critiquing Ranguma’s leadership over claims of massive untackled corruptions cases and poor leadership.
At one point McObewa said the governor should resign if he cannot handle and take action against officials within the county mentioned in various graft scandals.
All this aspirants are seeking the same position with ODM tickets which is a dilemma on who will manage to clinch the party ticket during the nomination period Nyong’o being a close ally of Raila and Ruth.
However, political analysts within the county says being Raila’s close allies will not influence Nyong’o’s, or Ranguma’s elections because the aspirants will have to sell their policies to the electorate who will vote adding that voters will make decision based on which candidate’s agenda addresses their problems and not who is closest to Raila.
Political analyst Jared Okello said Raila will not endorse anybody for the race to ensure their is free and fair nomination.
He said the Cord chief wants to focus more on his presidential bid and not the backlash that comes with bungled nominations.
Outa will, however, run for the senate position in the August 8, polls and is expected to battle it out with the County Executive Committee member for Trade and Heritage Rose Kisia, Ochola Ogoda and Israel Kodiaga.
"This time round wananchi have said the nomination will be free and fair. We believe it will be so," Ogoda said in an earlier interview.
Kisia has always indicated that having worked in her position, she understands the county government better that her rivals.
"I have acquired enough experience in the first term of devolution as a county executive and I know the challenges we have faced and how to correct them at the Senate," she said earlier.
