Political embers are expected to flare in Kilifi County after two main contenders for the coveted governor seat were on Thursday given a nod by IEBC to contest in the August elections.

Contesting on an ODM ticket, the incumbent Amason Kingi who is seeking a second term in office was cleared alongside his running mate Gideon Saburi who was unveiled on Wednesday.Gideon Mung'aro who is Kingi's main challenger was also given the green light after his nomination papers were accepted by the electoral body.The Kilifi North MP who is vying on a Jubilee Party ticket was accompanied by his running mate Kenneth Kamto.Speaking after being cleared, Kingi who is ODM's point man in the region pledged to conduct peaceful campaigns and exuded confidence that he will defend and retain his seat.He further asked IEBC to conduct free and fair elections in August.On his part, Mung'aro was also quick to assure residents that his campaigns will be peaceful. He further warned the incumbent, Kingi, to prepare for a resounding defeat in the August 8 elections.Others in the race include KADU-Asili's Kazungu Kambi and Professor Gabriel Katana.
